The U.K. Parliament Supports World Malaria Day

The Parliament of the United Kingdom recognized the truly global challenge that malaria presents and issued an Early Day Motion supporting the goals of World Malaria Day. 

Citing the preventable nature of the disease,  Parliament called on governments of malaria-endemic countries, donor country governments and international public and private organizations to work together to combat malaria worldwide. 

Parliament also recognized the significant success that has already been achieved and congratulated all those engaged in the global campaign against malaria and pointed to a number of countries have reduced malaria deaths by 50 per cent.  The statement also encouraged the U.K.’s government to continue to contribute resources towards fighting the scourge of malaria and striving towards achieving the 2010 and 2015 goals of reducing and eventually ending deaths due to malaria. 

Both the British Parliament and the U.S. Congress issued strongly worded statements of support demonstrating that the widespread support for fighting malaria.
