Novartis Success with 250 million doses of Coartem

July 6th, 2009 | Posted by Jonathan Shradar

In Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, today, Novratis CEO Dr. Dan Vasella distributed the 250 millionth dose of Coartem – a malaria treatment and life saving drug.

Novartis has been producing the drug at a loss for some time as it sees a need to provide such a life saving drug therapy at a reasonable and affordable cost for those in malaria endemic countries like Tanzania.

Malaria No More and the Malaria Policy Center were in Dar for the announcement and applaud Novartis for such a success and we see this milestone not as the end goal but a huge step towards the final goal of ending malaria deaths in Africa.
