Senate Launches Malaria Working Group
Malaria Policy Center applauds Senator Feingold's Leadership
Washington, DC - Recognizing that successful anti-malaria initiatives need continued support and resources, a group of U.S. Senators have established a Senate Working Group to sustain awareness and support for anti-malaria efforts. The bipartisan working group also plans to share information on best practices in fighting the disease and to work with the Obama Administration to ensure maintained approaches to fighting the disease.
The Malaria Policy Center, a DC based global health advocacy organization, welcomed the news with praise for the co-chairs and specifically Senator Russell Feingold for his efforts to create the working group.
"Senator Feingold has been a champion in the fight against Malaria and a fierce advocate for Africa. He is an important voice and great leader to have on the ground floor of creating this Working Group," said Mark Green, Policy Center Director. "This bipartisan of Senators is standing with children in Africa to see the first great humanitarian victory of this century, an end to malaria deaths."
Initial members of the Working Group include Senators Feingold (WI), Wicker (MS), Isakson (GA), Murray (WA), Bingaman (NM), Kennedy (MA), Brownback (KS), Durbin (IL), Risch (ID), Snowe (ME), Specter (PA) and Sanders (VT).
