An Open Letter to President Obama

Barack Obama LetterA coalition of global health partners sent President Obama an open letter this past Friday. Malaria No More, ONE, The White Ribbon Alliance, U.S. Coalition for Child Survival, Friends of the Global Fight and others joined in authoring the letter. At this crucial time in the fight against malaria, the global health partners presented the President with a budget request for fiscal year 2011.

Rep. BoozmanNigeria loses close to $1 Billion a year due to the fight against malaria. In Africa, malaria accounts for close to 40% of health expenditures. This makes moving out of poverty impossible and families are force to choose between food or malaria meds. We must continue to fight this disease and lift the burden off or families in Africa.

Our goal is to galvanize partners throughout the world to reach the United Nations target of universal access to mosquito nets and malaria medicine in Africa by the end of 2010, a crucial first step to reaching the international target of reducing deaths to near zero by 2015.
