Statement on Global Fund High-Level Panel Report

The Malaria No More Policy Center welcomes the release of the Global Fund High-Level Panel Report to strengthen the fiduciary controls of the Global Fund. The Panel, chaired by former Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt and former President of Botswana, Festus Mogae, put forth recommendations that will serve to strengthen the Global Fund's ability to continue delivering lifesaving services.

Washington, D.C.: We applaud the Fund’s commitment to improving the health and lives of millions around the world, and recognize their partnership in the fight against malaria. The Global Fund is critical in addressing global health challenges, specifically, playing a key role in the fight to end malaria deaths by 2015, financing 70 percent of malaria commodities. A strong Global Fund is essential to the fight against malaria. It has proven that it deserves continued support from the U.S. taxpayer.

The Global Fund must remain accountable and transparent to the U.S. taxpayers, other donors, and most importantly, to the people they serve.  We welcome the Global Fund's commitment to accountability by creating the High-Level Panel, and urge the Global Fund to take prompt and strong action on the Panel's recommendations.
