Joy Phumaphi

Joy Phumaphi is the Executive Secretary of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA). In this role, she has expanded ALMA to include 39 Heads of State and Government, and introduced innovative malaria financing programs and accountability mechanisms. Although still a young organization, ALMA serves as a platform for African leadership against malaria and has become a dominating force in the global health community, under Mrs. Phumaphi’s leadership. Previously, Mrs. Phumaphi has served in a variety of positions including Vice President & Head of the Human Development Network at the World Bank, Minister of Health in Botswana, and Commissioner in the UN Secretary General's Commission on HIV/AIDS and Governance in Africa.
